Trailer chains/cables

I have a 99 model custom line trailer. I’m wanting to put Cables instead of the chains. The chains were run through a thin plate under the tongue. It doesn’t look sturdy enough to keep the trailer secure if the trailer should ever come off the ball. How are the cables attached on most of y’all’s trailer? I’m in the process of adding steps to the tongue. If I need to weld some sort of attachment, now is the time.

There is a thick plate welded verically under the tongue & the cables are bolted to that plate with 3/8” bolts.
