    Little Tail soup!

Its that time of year, dying Deer Tails for jigs! 20 in the pot getting nice and black! Tough color to dye, takes quite a bit of simmering, but careful not to cook the skin.

Yes my wife is very Tollerant!

I was not sure if this was going to be about getting a little tail or about soup. Did not expect this.

How does it smell ? Do you use tanned or dried tails to start ?

I ran a check station for years, and a buddy also ran one, so we clipped tails if they didnt want them, most guys let us. That and friends giving them to me. Have a few totes of them. I just skin out, dry them. Dye the tails I make the natural brown out of the midfle. And also any tails that are not good brown.

I love a hair jig and BC21 makes a fine jig. We're catching a few with the hair now. Water 43-45 and finesse fishing is the way to go. Hair jigs and smallmouth were made famous by Billy Westmoreland many years ago. Least here in the south.

Olive, black and brown are good now for us. Be throwing one tomorrow .

I haven't cooked up any whitetails in a long time but use to quite a bit. Tied jigs all winter long and sold the jigs to mom and pop bait shops for 50 cents each. I used plastic dip for my black jigs and white jigs. It was a great selling point and the color did as it was suppose to, not chip off when banging against rocks for smallies and walleyes.

Now the only tails I cook up are "OX Tails" for Ox tail soup.........best soup this side of the Mississippi ! ! !
