New Grill needed should i go from propane to pellet?

I have had a weber for over 14 years and its time for new grill. I am debating on going to pellet or staying propane. Those of you that made that switch are you glad? Anyone go back to propane?

Also any recommendations on pellet grill. I found an old thread think lot guys had recteq. Family of 4 dont really ever cook for more than 4-6.

    Thanks.

I haven't used my propane grill since I bought my pellet grill about 3 or 4 years ago. It's a jack of all trades, I can smoke on it or I can put the grill grates on and crank it up to 500 degrees and grill on it if I want. I don't have any use for my propane grill anymore.

I have two weber kettles that I use 3-4 times a week...so I'm not sure why I'm even responding.

    Why stop at two?
I have all three - charcoal, propane and pellet.

Propane works fine for most things, but I think you get more "smokey" flavor from a pellet grill, and it's harder to accidentally burn the food.

Yes Recteq is Highly recommended. Their website gives a simple rundown of WHY? why buy a pellet grill? why buy theirs? But you can also watch a gazillion youtube reviews and youll be hard pressed to find anything negative about them. Great company and great people and great grills. So easy to use a pellet grill. We use ours for everything.

Which one is more cost effective?

$20 for a propane tank swap that will last about 6 months.

How long will $20 of pellets last?

Longer than that propane bottle if you leave them both on till empty I bet.

I really don't know but I bet over 48 hours of continuous use. It's really not a fair comparison because most things in the smoker are done low and slow unlike propane.

I have both. I use to turn my pellet grill up to 500+ to cook steaks on but it's too hard on the fan and auger motors.

Pellet, dont miss the propane at all. When i really want the smoky flavor I fire up the old stick burner. About to cook some ribeyes on the Pit Boss this evening. I cook best brisket i have ever been able to on in also. As info I have a Kamado Joe and its a big kiln, you go over your target temp you have to start over. It would hold a temp for a LOONG time but I hated palying with the vents during fire up

I’m with you on the egg…I’ve got 2 (L and XL). Smoking a butt as I type.

Most of the Recteqs have a 40lb hopper and burn on average about 1lb per hour on low and slow and slightly more when cooking at high temps. Plus its waaaaay easy to regulate the temperature too and super easy to use.

Pellet is going to be the next grill in my backyard after the current Weber croaks.

I have both, and personally use the propane way more. I know you can get great results smoking, but most of the time I'm coming home from work and just want to cook the burger / steak / brat whatever and don't feel like waiting for the pellet. My pellet grill (camp chef) also doesn't seem to get as hot as some of the other pellet grills, so that's probably part of why I don't use it much.
