Got a buddy fishing santee this week and has had 1 bite in 3 days and he is a �� y’all can have that place. I haven’t been to Murray in a long time but wouldn’t mind making a trip there. I’m sure after this spring though it will suck next year with all the attention. Those green fish don’t handle pressure like that for very long.
I think its clear now! Murrary is the best in the state. Santee is post spawn mainly right now but Murrary is freaking still kicking them out. 5 fish smaller than 4LBs won out of like 220 hourly spots. 2 of those were 3.99s I keep thinking it slow down but the herring deal still isnt even wide open yet. Id say once the herring coming off the points it will slow down. Next year if the they can keep the DNR from eradicating the grass/ hydrilla in Santee it will be back to its true form and possibly better.Originally Posted by Judson1
FACT!! We didnt catch a ton this weekend but got two checks with a 5.04 for 5th and a 6.51 for 1st yesterday. And the WORST storm I have ever experienced on the water yesterday on way to weighin . Holy SHEET, it was treacherous!

Especially if they would go ahead and do a restocking now.
Santee won't be stocked for a while. Other lakes in need but in the future for sure... getting a lot of grass back now
Lake Hartwell was a shadow of the lake i grew up fishing for 37 years last week. Spotted bass after spotted bass. Tournament weights in the Military Bass Anglers tournaments were very low. We struggled to break double digit weight daily and ended up 17th of 106 with 30.25lbs of nearly all spots after 3 days. It takes nearly that much to win a ONE day tournament now on Murray. Murray is clearly the top SC lake right now. Only 1lb separate 10 places in the final results last week at Hartwell.

The DNR was dumping stripers in Wateree the other day. I'm not sure if he said 70 thousand or 7 thousand.

I guess Stripers bring in more revenue for local businesses.???? Duke dropped the lake level 3 Springs in a row with the bass bedding and killed off the spawns...that's the problem with Wateree but it came back some this Spring.
depends on your criteria for ranking. 4 day total weight for the elite’s was 10lbs heavier on Santee. Big bass was heavier daily as well. Murray had 4 days of pretty stable weather, Santee had at least one day where weather came into play.
total lbs caught for the entire field I’m sure without a doubt was heavier on Murray though.

Put some tournament regs in place. The health of the fishery should be a priority here. It's great this year, but has taken years to have a spring like this. It's just in a rebound phase. Grass started coming back, lake lowered 10' to kill it.
I looked back at some of the better CATT tournaments on Murray just for fun. I have records back as far as 2008. Murray has been excellent in the Spring for many years. Especially Jan & Feb. 2023 has been better no doubt, but the past decade has seen big bags brought in a Murray consistently. Murray is strong.

Finally made it over to Hartwell with my boat and had a GREAT day fished from 645 'till 1130 and boated 20 fish 17 spots 2 stripers and a hybrid, best spot was about 2.5 lb ALL hit like a ton of bricks so I've fished Hartwell,keowee,jocasse,Murray and Greenwood

As I said earlier in this thread I would NOT trailer my boat all the way over to Murray it just aint all that as far as I'm concerned , as far as spots ruining a lake I say BS, I fished Okeechobee for 30+ years caught a single double digit and hundreds of 6lb+ largemouth and pound for pound spots hit and fight harder
Please spread the word Murray Is the last place you would fish we do appreciate it.
spots are so much fun. But hartwell is slam full of nice largemouth too. It’s one of the funnest places I’ve ever fished. Murray is having a nice moment right now but it will suck again shortly with all the pressure. Hartwell has been beaten to death for years now hit it just continues to be a great fishery. I wish all the guys that “hate hartwell” would just trot on over to Murray and stay there. And take the 5000 high school/college tournaments with them.
When was the sucking at Murray going on?
