    Straight Fluorocarbon

Or braid to Fluorcarbon on spinning reels. I had a rough day last Saturday breaking three times braid to Floro. How many of you fish straight Floro on Spinning reels?

What knot do you use to connect the two.

Braid to fluorocarbon for me. And honestly I usually use around a 7’ leader so my knot isn’t on the spool when I cast

Truthfully I’ve always become frustrated with straight flouro on spinning reels. I know if I upgraded to something expensive like tatsu it may behave better but otherwise I think braid to flouro is just fine. Use the shin fukae knot.

Braid to flouro, alberto knot, I run about 30 feet of flouro, I fish deep and clear here in NC, I don't like dropping braid past the fish if I can help it or even casting a small swimbait. I run 15# seaguar smack down to 6# Tatsu and never break at the knot. Fish tend to fight the hardest when they see the boat, at that point, no concern for the connection knot. That's just how I do it and it works for me.

Don’t respool after every trip .last year was the first time I haven’t gone straight fluorocarbon. Use KVD line conditioner or blakemore. Maybe it’s just because I’ve always done it that way.

What is breaking? Braid, fluoro or the knot?

The more I test fluorocarbon fishing lines on the test machine the more I believe it should only be used when absolutely necessary. Fluorocarbon has a lot of stretch and it is fragile. Unless you need that extra couple feet from the sinking line or complete invisibility I believe it is a bad choice.

Fluoro has a lot of stretch, but doesn’t stretch until fairly heavily loaded so it has better sensitivity than mono. Add in abrasion resistance, and it’s a good choice fishing the bottom in rocky bodies of water. Add it as a leader on braid and you have a good combination. Very little stretch, good sensitivity and resistant to abrasion
