    2013 Crestliner VT17

Bought a very low hour 2013 VT17. Rewiring and adding touches for my style of fishing (fly/lite tackle). Came with a 60hp Mercury 4 stroke. I have a pontoon I redid with a 2016 Suzuki 90DF 4 stroke. Really thinking of switching the 2 motors. Little weight difference but could compensate by moving 2 batteries up front.

Doable? Stupid? Have a good buddy that will rig. He's a motor wrench

There are no warranties on any of it

Is the boat rated for a 90 hp? If not you’re not going to be able to get it insured and you are leaving yourself open to a lawsuit is something would happen.

The boat is rated for a 75hp which weighs more than the 2016 90 I have.

I have the same boat with a Merc 75 4 stroke. Mine had the ecu tuned when you could still get people to do it. It is supposed to put out a bit over 100 hp. The boat will run about 50 mph. BUT mine still has all the 75 labels and factory tags. I would not switch to a higher hp rated motor than the hull is rated for, if for the only reason is it is too easy for the wrong people to know.

The biggest issue, to me, is weight. I owned a 2018 Lowe 18HP, rated for a 115; however, the weight limit on the 17-18' Crestliner and Lowe (both owned by Brunswick) was 375#. The 90 is 341#, which is 100 more than the 60. I wouldn't risk it for 3-5mph.

My 75 Mercury has to weigh close to the weight of that 90. Never been an issue. The boat is rated for a 75, and lots came with them.
