    Key West for old folks

An out of the blue opportunity to travel to Florida came up. A former business associate is a huge Eagles fan, and he and his wife had a Florida trip planned with non-refundable reservations. They are going to Arizona instead. He made me an offer I couldn’t refuse since I no longer have ethics rules in the way.

Wife wants to stretch the time and do Key West too.

I’ve been a couple of times before and had a hell of a time. But I can’t do that kind of stuff anymore. I’m married and old!

What do you other old farts recommend?

We had a ball with the restaurants and bars. The marine aquarium and fishing in the gulf were what I liked the most. Cj

I’m kind of lame but there are miles of beaches, beautiful water, warm weather and great food. I just spent days relaxing, eating good food, kayaking, and enjoying the beauty of the place.

Key lime pie there is good. Lots of bars and restaurants. I really like walking around the marina and seeing the giant tarpon. If a boat is coming in and cleaning fish the tarpon will be there to pick up any fish parts thrown in the water. There are also some goliath grouper under the docks as well. They are a site to see.

Just remember to not tap your toes in a public restroom.

There are guides taking you around the island on a PWC. Fun way to see the island.

Mermaid Kate is a very nice girl who's a good friend of my cousin's son who's lived in Key West for many years. Easy on the eyes and knows her stuff.

If you're staying for a few days make sure you rent scooters or at the very least bicycles. Getting around is so much easier when you're not trying to find a place to park a car in the popular areas on the Western end of KW.

Love the keys. Key West is a fun pedestrian community. We usually stay at the Key Lime Inn. It’s a block off Duvall St……very convenient.

Make your reservations early The Keys have limited lodging and they fill up fast.

Take a sea plane out to the Dry Turtugus. Eat breakfast at the Blue Heaven and dinner at Louies Backyard.

Tried to book for Dry Tortugas, but it’s booked solid through March by air and through April by boat.
