    Berkley Big Game Braid

I went to Wally World to pick up some Big Game mono and next to it was spools of Big Game Braid. I never new Berkley sold Big Game braid and was wondering if anyone has tried it and what's their thoughts on it? I use Power Pro exclusively for all my braid because I have never had any issues thus no need to switch but the Big Game is cheaper and come in bigger spools.

I think it's a Walmart exclusive. It's the only place I've seen it.

I have been using Berkley Big game mono forever and it was the first I heard of it also. I googled the braid and checked the reviews and they are mixed from good to bad. I might try some practicing first to see how it holds up

I hadn't heard of it before either so I stopped by WalMart so I could put some on my test machine.

65lb Power Pro vs 65lb Big Game Braid: They tested very close to the same max force and similar palomar knot strength. At 65lbs of force power pro has slightly less stretch at 17% vs 21.7%. The big difference was in abrasion resistance where Big Game braid lasted 20.2 seconds and Power Pro 38.9 seconds. Power pro tested a little Thinner also at .0155in vs .0170in

For the full test report with microscope photos:

For a side by side comparison:

I hope someone finds these reports useful.

That's cool! Have you ever compared Big Game mono and P Line CXX in 15 and 20lb test?

Good info... Could you text the Berkley braid knot vs that palomar knot for strength?

I have 15lb big game mono:
    https://linetestlab.com/2023/01/21/berkley-big-game-15lb/

I can buy some 15lb P-Line CXX to test soon. So far I have 18 fishing lines in the test database.
    https://linetestlab.com/compare-test-report/

I'm adding more lines as fast as I can reasonably buy them. I've invested thousands in this project so far. Building the test machine was not cheap. I have committed myself to buy and test at least 1 new line every week for a year. I've been doing way more than that so far. My mission is to have the biggest and best fishing line test database on the internet. I have no sponsors, It's all paid for by me. I'm trying to do a bunch of lines at 14-15lbs right now so they can be compared directly.

I'm glad to hear you liked it.

I can do knot tests. I don't know the Berkley braid knot. Have a video?

The more I tie the palomar knot the more I think it's not very good.

It has been around for a few years now, posted the same question a couple years ago and decided to try it out. So far it has been just as good as power pro for me.

I've put your database and website on my favorites list. Really good info...thanks.

Also, the abrasion resistance time for BG 15lb mono is quite impressive. If I'm interpreting it correctly.

if tied properly it works great on mono and most of the hybrid lines, imo.
Good luck on the venture, very useful !

    Great database you have.

if I may ask, what do the Line Test Lab Rating numbers mean?

i see Bassix is rated at 5 and Abrazx is rated as 1. Just curious as what those mean
