If you want the best brisket you will ever have make the short drive from Austin to Taylor and try Mueller's BBQ. They are legendary and have been around for years. Stepping in their place is like stepping back in time. It's about 20 miles up the road from Austin.

Coopers is Llano is kinda overrated to me and rather times we have been it was decent but nothing special. Salt Lick is a touristy type place. OK food.

Frankins is supposed to be great but expect a long wait to get in.

BBQ and Mexican. Pick a place and it’ll be good.

if you’re a beer guy, go to Live Oak and Jester King…they also have food

not a fan of most of the tourist bbq. Best IMO is Rabels in New Berlin

Definitely try Franklins. Melt i the mouth good. Worth the wait at least once. they will serve you beer as you wait in line.

Salt Lick Barbecue in Round Rock and Driftwood is worth the drive. I have eaten there twice in one day when I could make it work.

In the mornings drive around until you find a bright orange, green or yellow run down looking restaurant with a bunch of cars in the parking lot. Order you some breakfast tacos and you will be happy you stopped.

Terry Blacks in downtown Austin he broke away from the family like his place better than the original Blacks in Lockhart.

Valentina’s Tex Mex BBQ especially for great Breakfast Tacos try the Holyfield and you will skip lunch it’s not a restaurant order at the food truck they have picnic tables some inside with patio heaters.

    Old 300 BBQ in Blanco

The Salt Lick is all show and a tourist destination don’t waste your time there we live close to it and go occasionally much better choices though.

This Man knows what he’s talking about we found that criteria sure worked in Luling and numerous other small towns.

Rosey's out 71 west in Bee Caves, Get the super breakfast taco and you will not regret it.
I Prefer Coopers in Llano, Sundays they have Cabrito, use to have Lamb also, but I do not think they do any longer. Some great sausage, brisket, pork chops like 1 1/2'' thick, Ribs-beef and pork, etc.
I always ask for moist brisket,
Salt lick is good also in my opinion, Franklins, expect to wait in like from 9am and then you might get what you want when they open. but it is good also.

Every time we have eaten at Salt Lick it was kind of bland and overly salty(no pun intended). It's OK but to me there are far better choices. I don't hate it and I'm sure we will go again at some point.

We are blessed in Texas with great BBQ.
