    Alpha Angler Impressions

Seen a bit of chatter on these lately so I ordered a custom Slasher the other day. What quality build I can expect?

    Rod snob's step in.

I have a Zilla and I’ve been happy with it. It’s never going to rival Mega Bass in terms of bling, but I don’t think that was ever the intention. Great all purpose rod at a reasonable price.Personally, if I were having one custom-made I’d go with the cork grip, just my personal preference

I own two dsr's for drop shotting and a wrench for senkos and ned rigs.
This is my limit in price for any rod.
I really like them and their customer service is top notch.
(I had to utilize their service after I found out you cannot fit a 6' 6" rod in a 1' livewell)

I’ve heard rumors that Alpha Alpha angler rods are built using NFC HM and XRay blanks. Does anyone know if that’s true?

I’ve heard different suppliers depending on the model. NFC being one and I’ve heard Sage, the fly rod builder.

Quality is good. I have a chatterbound that i'm positive is an NFC blank. Don't really care for the blank though, too soft for my liking.

I have a Wrench that I use for neds and shakey heads, and neko rigs. I dont use it much, but it seems pretty nice for the price.

My rod was ordered with cork grips. So blank wise ALX Zolo level (+ - =).

I have the Chatterbound, Rebound , Zilla and Zilla Vaader…
For the money they are really tough to beat.
    Extremely light and versatile…
One pet peeve … The damn exposed threads in front of the reel seat.
Although the Vaader threads were cut down and I love it.

I think AA rods are of decent build quality with solid components. I think their calling card is the actions of their rods. In my experience they have their actions dialed in for the rods they sell, so that the rod blank is really well mated to the technique the rod was built for. And they offer rods for the "main" techniques a majority of us fish, meaning they don't make a bunch of super "niche" techniques, and I think that is largely due to trying to keep SKUs to a minimum (key for a small company). Overall, at their price point it is a solid choice for a lot of their rods, especially if you can get them during one of their annual sales.
