I have a 2002 520vx and it does not have step from front deck to floor of cockpit area. I would like to build one looking for pictures and some tips of material of people that have done this, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, John

Do you have the deck extension? Without the deck extension i believe there is a built-in shelf on the sides that could be converted into a step. I am doing this from memory so i might be wrong. I have the deck extension and just built a step out of marine grade plywood and covered it with carpet.

steploc.jpgNo built in shelf, I have seen those also would be a lot easier with it.
I have a 522vx and it had the deck extension and when I replaced my carpet I removed it and cut it down to fit and refiberglassed it and made it into a step up to front deck and kept it as a compartment, worked out greatIMG_20220422_191950852.jpg

Not sure if it’s still a thing but on my 2003 I was able to buy a deck extension straight through Ranger. Gave them the vin number so they could match the carpet and it even came with hardware. I want to say it was around $100, just not sure if they’re still doing it, this was probably 2018

On my 02 520, it didn’t have the step up ledge built into the fiberglass like they did in later years. It was definitely an oversight fixed in either 03 or 04. I did have the factory extension, but it was only moderately useful due to the step height.
I have seen home built boxes from starboard, carpeted to match, that were nice. I went the lazy route and used a yeti loadout gobox in a 30 size. It is just the right height and useful. It’s actually a better step than the cooler in my z520c…according to my knees.

I made a step using a piece of Marine 1/2" plywood and covered it with some Linoleum I had after a kitchen re-model. I had a set of mounting brackets for a deck extension that hold it in place.

Look up Ranger Mike on Facebook. He builds lids and step up boxes. He’s busy for a reason.

Yes it is for the front pedestal seat.
Liability reasons, they want you to put it there whenever boat is moving.

That hole may have something jammed in it that is preventing a pedestal from fully engaging. Could even be an accumulation of dirt.

I tried Ranger parts for a deck step, well tracker parts now and they can’t seem t help because my boat is a 2005 (520dx). I do not have Facebook, so if someone could post any contact info for Ranger Mike, it would be appreciated.
