I know I'm splitting hairs here but been using 7.5 reels with IPT 30 for Pitchin Boat Docks and Cover and now looking at a 8.3 reel with 33 IPT since the 7.5 is sold out. I know it's personal preference but looking to see what others prefer. Thanks!

I'll use a 7:1 or an 8:1 for pitching, but I prefer using the 8:1 since that's what I've been using for the past few years.
I like the 8:1 to help get fish under control faster around docks and cover although the right rod is more important for me.
Make sure to consider the spool diameter, and full line on the spool, along with the gear ratio, in order to meet the IPTs you want.
Thanks y'all I appreciate your feedback. Just recently moved from PA to Texas. I'll give 8.3 a try for pitchin those docks and stumps.

If you are just pitching to docks or isolated cover and not working the bait all the way back to the boat, I dont think you can have too fast a retrieve. You will save a bunch of time in a full day fishing by just reeling in faster to make your next pitch. 8.1 for me pitching to isolated structure.
I like the 7:1 cuzz I seem to think I can use it for more techniques than the 8:1. If you think about it this way, and many will argue, between the two, for pitching short distances the delta in speed/efficiency is really small.
