Let's get this out of the way....I'm a moron. Forgot I had a large carpet piece in bed of truck before I pulled boat in the dark. So the rough side hit console and slid down most of starboard top cap. I have scratches that you can see but not feel in clear coat. I have tried Mothers scratch remover, then 3m fine scratch compound. It looks Better, but I can still see them. Any recommendations on removing this without hurting clear coat?

If you can see them, but not feel them, wetsand with 2000 grit sand paper, then buff/polish with your 3n fine scratch compound and it should look like it never happened.
OK, did that yesterday. Thought I was staying very light, and kept it wet. Carpet scratches are gone, but I can still see my wet sand scratches now. I couldn't find any 3m compound in my little town, but used Mcguires compound, followed by their polish. Anything I can do to remove the wet stand scratches, or is it just my punishment for being too heavy with the sanding?

What grit paper did you start and finish with. I don't think they would be 2,000 scratches, not on gelcoat.
I used a sponge pad, I first used 1,000, then 2,000

you will see 2000 scratches, but they are very fine. Try to find some 3m compound (oreillys generally has it here locally, or they can order it in).
