Anyone know how the areas of planted Eel Grass in George are doing?
Anyone know how the areas of planted Eel Grass in George are doing?
According to FWC biologist Tuten, the eel grass is growing within the fenced enclosures whether planted or not. It appears there is adequate seed stock.
The problem they found is that if they move the fence, the grass is eaten virtually overnight by the critters (birds, fish, turtles, manatees).
It will stay that way until some balance between forage and foragers occurs.
And just FYI - Rodman is also void of any submerged or emergent vegetation including spatterdock. I didn't think they could kill the spatterdock off, but they did. There is nothing green, just a lake perimeter mat of dead and yellowing water lettuce and dollar weed (aka penny wort aka Hydrocotyle spp). Further reading identifies the spray schedule actually has them targeting the dollar weed, explaining why everything is dead.
