    Improving hole shot

I think I'm about as good as I can get but if I can improve any I want to give it a try.
    2004 Stratos 285 pro xl dc 150 opti tempest + 23p

Currently running the large pvs plugs so I ordered some solids with the plan of starting there and drilling my own holes as needed.
My question is how do I read the rpms to determine if im there?
from dead still and pin it am I looking for the roll over rpms? and whats that magic number? thanks guys

On my 189VLO IIRC the breakover rpm is around 3300. Same engine/prop as what you have, all vent holes plugged. It comes out of the hole great!

Thanks Russ that gives me a little bit to go on. I haven't ran the boat in a while but I'm thinking my rollover now is around 4500rmps so if putting those solid plugs in will get better bite I may be where i want to be.

and Mike I hear ya on the Bravo 1FS I will be looking toward one of those in the future as I already know that 4 blade will be a better overall.

I had old Hydrasport that had a terrible hole shot. There weren't a lot of prop options back then. I ended up with a turbo that did ok. Although I don't like them, I put a wedge style whatever tale on it. It was really narrow compared to what you see today. It helped tremendously, even after that it didn't compare to the boats today.

And if you want one, I got one that I might sell. Good hole shot but wouldn’t lift my bow. Sent my 3 blade to Mark

3300 RPM is too low, 3800 to 4000 Provides a much better hole shot.

Finally had a decent day to take the boat out. I can say those solid plugs made a huge difference in the hole shot. I forgot to pay attention to the rpms because we were just happy to be on the water but its for sure a better hotshot.

So with my wife, me, 3/4 tank fuel, and our normal gear we hit 58mph and had more but ran out of lake. hole shot great now. but I do notice at low speeds the prop is like slipping and regaining grip and the cornering isn't good unless I trim down and slow down a little. You think the bravo will improve on that?. thinking it'll lose a little top end? when I say low speeds I mean if I get it on plane and try to run around that speed. maybe 30-40 light throttle.

The Bravo1 will do everything better, Just 1-3 mph slower than your fastest prop. It's an awesome cruising prop.

Thanks man. z71 has one but hes not sure he wants let it go. Ill keep my eye out for one of these. I have a buddy with a 24P tempest + I'm gonna try also just for fun. I had one but that was before the engine was running best so I sold it.
I know its not going to do what the Bravo will.

This, but on my boat it happens to be my fastest prop. But amazing at getting on plane, turns, midrange speed......just need to run it higher at WOT.

Ok I ran the 24 tempest some. I can say for sure it handles better at mids and cornering but is lugging at WOT -5400-5500 rpms
the 23 tempest gives a better hole shot and 2-3 mph more top speed and will turn on up there around 5700-5800 rpms Im wondering if that 22 bravo 1 will be somewhere in the middle ?

Bravo XS is the fastest prop on my boat at just under 80 mph. The Bravo XS has an amazing hole shot, grips in turns no matter what height I have the plate at, terrific mid range speed, and is 3 mph faster than a promax on my boat.

What about Mark's Razor 4 (not the XL). Does it compare to the Bravo?

It's smaller diameter and runs good... But the holeshot is slower and doesn't carry a load "As good" Still better than many other choices.

XL would be a better choice for what you're looking for. But nothing beats the Bravo XS or FS. Best all around prop I've run and fast mid range and top end, and I've run lots of props.
