    Question '22 Z518 w/150 Pro Xs 4s

Looking to see if anyone has a '22 Z518 w/150 Pro XS 4S and what your set up is. PTP, prop etc... My boat has a 22P Fury, 6 inch manual plate set by the factory, not sure what the PTP is because I haven't measured it and running a light load, and acid batteries. I'm getting 53 mph per GPS. I know its not a rocket with the 150 but just looking to maximize what I have.

I think a 21 P Tempest Plus would give you a better holeshot and at the right PTP a couple of more mph.

You did not indicate your rpms at WOT but need to be at 6000.

That's a pretty heavy boat for a 150, what your getting right now isn't bad.

I have a 2021 Z185 with the same motor, 6" Bob's Hyd jack plate. My prop is a 22P Tempest Plus. I can run 53.4 GPS @6180 RPM, I get on plane just under 5 seconds. I tried a 23P Tempest Plus and got the same speed with 6000 RPM. I took out all my fishing gear and, had about 8 gallons of fuel and did reach 55 MPH with the 22P Tempest prop.

I’m right at 6100 or 6080 can’t remember which one and that is per mercury vessel view.

There are several great threads here on the z185 with the 150 Pro XS and props. My 2022 Z185 came with a 21pTempest plus but I’ve only been out twice since I got the boat. My PTP is factory at 4.5” with no plate. The last trip in September on Falls Lake in NC was 53.7 at 6k-6.2k rpm with my 240lb son. The initial break in was done on Claytor Lake in VA with my father and son. We saw just over 50mph at the end of the day in July. I have a Tempest 24p waiting but just haven’t had the time because of work and sports. Certain with the right prop, load, and weather 55+ is possible.

You should stick with your factory setup and run it. Your numbers are likely right at the performance threshold. Don't waste too much time chasing 1mph. If you get a 2nd prop which is always a good idea, look at a 23p Tempest Plus or 24p Bravo 1 FS. Neither is likely to provide faster top end speed but both are fine props with good performance characteristics.

Enjoy that Ranger and go fishing!

The Mercury 150 4s and 150 Pro XS have different gear ratios with the 4s have the higher ratio. It seems Ranger uses the same prop regardless of the lower ratio for the Pro XS 4 stroke resulting in the newer Pro XS hitting the rev limiter. Another member here did extensive prop testing and determined the Bravo I FS 25 was the best all around prop giving 3-4 mph gains and superior handling. He tried the Tempest Plus 24 and noted the boat was a vast improvement over his factory 22 Tempest with higher top end but not as good handling as the Bravo. I got a deal on the Tempest 24, so I went this route. My dealer agreed my Ranger should have came with the Tempest Plus 22 instead of the 21. I plan to use the 24 Tempest in the cooler season when fishing solo and the 21 when taking both boys out.
