Question DFI Oil - cold weather? General question

    Serial #2B089362 Pro XS 200

Just a general question....oil being this cold is "thicker" than oil when its summer and hot....is there any effect with the oil pump or any other parts when running the motor when oil is like this?? Yes, i know "thicker" is not the correct term but cant think of the word at this time of typing...

I've fished in conditions so cold I couldn't stop the rod guides from freezing and my Optimax never skipped a beat. Mercury/Quicksilver DFI is a synthetic blend.

Why? And not why the Optimax didn’t skip a beat but why would you fish in those conditions?

Because I can and that's when the fishing is best in the waters we fish in NE WA. Our boat is outfitted with a Planar forced hot air heater so we fish in comfort.

That's pretty well standard around here in the winter. There's nothing like a tournament on Tablerock in Feb and 10 degrees outside.

Dang, that’s cold but I guess with the heater makes it a little better. That’s hardcore. Hats off to you.

I fish in 30° outside air temp with a wool shirt and a comfy 58° inside.

This is why we fish Lake Roosevelt in winter...

Topic related comment, have never had a problem with DFI flow with temps to 25°.

    Agree with this ^^

I've been on Tablerock in February practicing on Thursday and Friday with temps in the 70's and blast off for tourney Saturday morning at 19 with 40 mph north winds.

Fished a tourney yesterday. Rod guides were freezing every cast until 1pm. Light snow at times 26-30 degrees with 30mph gusts. I loved every minute. And we caught them good. Winter fishing is nice. Not near as much pressure. If you have the right clothing, it's not that bad.
