Douglas Lake - summer fishing/boating info

We just booked a rental house on Douglas Lake for a week in mid-July. Can anyone share some general boating advice (safety-wise); info on how the lake fishes at this time of year; whether there is a fishable population of smallmouth or if you just catch them mixed in occasionally with greens?

Also, can anyone recommend an excellent bass fishing guide for Douglas at that time of year?

I'm already in major winter cabin fever and this discussion will help take my mind off of the winter storm that appears it will hit about 2/3rds of the US!

    Thanks!

Mike DelVisco lives on the lake in Dandridge Tn. and is also on the Lowrance pro staff who guides, gives many seminars and on water training on Douglass, Cherokee and others in the area.
You will have to google him for his information.

Boating regulations----see tara.com. Nice population of smallmouth. You can target them but July is tougher than a 3 week payday.

July is very hot and high humidity combined with temps in the 90's makes it miserable to fish in daytime. If your vacation is for fishing only I'd recommend a change of plans. If you plan to visit nearby attractions and Great Smoky National Forrest and play on the lake it will be fun.

I live on Douglas and fishing sucks in July.

Thx. Mostly boating/vacationing in the area but also plan to fish in the am most days. Good to know it’s got a decent population of smallies.

Any oddball boating hazards on the lake? I’ve got Lowrance HDS Live units with maps but I know the water level can vary quite a bit.

I'm not certain about this but I believe the water level should be full pool at that time of year. It's a winter drawdown lake I think but it should be normal pool in July ?

Lake will be at full pool in July and nothing to worry about unless you are running behind the islands from point 4 to the dam…. But even at full pool you would be fine.

Thanks guys. As I sit here watching snow get blown around by 40 mph gusts, it’s nice to think about summer fishing and vacationing on Douglas Lake!

I’ve reviewed a HotSpots fishing map and watched some not Ott DeFoe’s videos on Douglas-super helpful!
