    Thoughts on Megabass Damaged Epoxy

    DE7A2BA7-3177-4E54-85E1-E55395DB23D8.jpeg

I bought this rod used knowing it had this damage to it. Megabass Orochi XX Some say it should be fine while others have said it’s concerning. What does BBC think? Should it be fixed, if possible, or just fish it?

I personally would just fish it. There are no warranties on MB rods bought used. Just from the picture it looks like someone may have got a drop of sunscreen on it or possibly some dipping dye/scent of some sort.

With all the straight lines, prolly something during manufacture. Fish it like you stole it!!!

There is nothing in the structure of any rod once it is baked and the prepeg epoxy resin is set that will ever be hurt by fishing it, or the elements. experts say our rod blanks will last anywhere from a few centuries to as much as 5000 years. Your damage is simply unnecessary paint.

Go fish it. If you are wanting to fix the cosmetics, what I would do is put a thin layer of epoxy in the that area to fill the cavity. Then do a thread wrap over that, and epoxy the wrap. Will look better.

Looks fine as the wraps are holding. Just put a little epoxy on that spot and should be fine.

I believe it will be fine to fish. I would put some epoxy over the section, but only for looks.

Epoxy is dense and heavy, I would suspect that is just a dyed polyurethane.
