In a 2500 yea the 6.0 was really thirsty but in a 1500 " vortec max" package like i had they were actually pretty good on fuel if you kept your foot out of it. That truck was an absolute gem, probably the best vehicle i have ever owned. The sucky part the 2014 that replaced it probably the worst by far.

My wife and I RV a lot. I see more Ford turbo diesels than Chevy/GM turbos at campgrounds.

This fall I got 15.6 mpg with my 2015 6.0 on my yearly bowhunting trip to Kansas and back that was +/- 1600 miles. Not on the highway it gets about 12.5 mpg though like you mentioned.

My 6.0 was the worst truck I have ever owned for fuel mileage. The absolute best was 13 empty on the freeway with mixed 2 lane. Towing it was awful. 6 to 7 at best. I would leave the house with a small pontoon [22ft] and just make it to the Soo 150miles away. I would go through just shy of 4 tanks of fuel in a 540 mile trip! Plowing was ugly 3mpg. It was worse than my 454's on fuel. On the good side it ran great with plenty of power. CJ

Im guessing since you mention a plow you had a 2500. You cant compare that directly against a 1500 with the 6.0l its apples and oranges. They 6.0's in the 1500 and 2500 were different engines entirely as well as the 1500 is lighter and they are geared different. Back when i had mine the 6.0 and 5.3l were not all that much different in terms of economy, just power. Just like the 6.2l vs 5.3l today.

They are the same, the 6.0s out of the 1500, 2500, 3500s, Tahoes, Suburbans and Yukons are all interchangeable as long as it is in the same year range.

Same engine, I have built enough of them to know, early ones had cast iron heads and later different injection set ups. I wouldn't call my 2500 a 3/4 ton maybe a heavy half ton at best. Got rid of it with less than 50k on it for many reasons. Cj

Have owned 11 different new Ford through the last 40 years and sorry to say after the last F-150 there will probably not be anymore. Went to GMC and have not looked back.

Not all 6.0l are the same. I had a late 06 which is when they introduced L76 engine which is what i had. That engine had an aluminum block, 10:1 compression and in 07's and up it also had AFM which the 2500 did not have. The L76 also made more HP and torque than the iron block used in the 2500/3500 trucks.

Get what you want, but getting 10+ mpg towing a 21ft bass boat only applies to level ground and good roads while towing in my opinion. I can get 14 or 15 on a freeway towing, but put me in some hills its close to 10-11.
I am only in a Ford because Chevy could not produce a white, non tri color white pearl, truck.,2500 diesel 4x4, So I switched to Ford.

True but fuel economy is not going to be much different when you are working these engines. You want fuel economy go with a diesel. The best thing you can do is get rid of the AFM. With the newer engines they don't have the oil use issues [and the resulting self destructing pistons]. We just eliminated a AFM on a newer truck and the owner commented on how much smoother it is and no real mileage decrease that he can detect. And he is a mileage snob to the point of keeping way too much air in his tires. Anyway it is what it is, mileage towing is not going to happen with a gas truck if you are working it. And some [like my 6.0] are worse than others. CJ

I'm running a 2019 Ford F-150 with the 2.7L ecoboost and it tows my bass cat cougar without any issues. Lots of power and it actually has decent fuel economy when not towing. I like the chev trail boss as well, but they have that 4 banger turbo that I would not tow anything with. If you upgrade to V8 option the price increases dramatically and it's not with it. I don't need a fancy truck, my XLT with 2.7 has everything I need with 400 foot pounds of torque, pretty darn impressive...
