    Question question about trim cylinders

With the engine up and sitting on the tilt stop lever, should you be able to fully retract the trim cylinder rods while holding down the trim switch?

Yes. By design. So that motors moored/stored in water can retract the pistons for better protection.

thanks for the response. I never paid much attention to trim cylinders operation. I just rebuilt my tilt and trim cylinders due to a trim cap seeping and power bled the assembly about 4 times and the trim cylinders won't retract. Ii hear what sounds like cavitation when I try. the Tilt cylinder works normally and smoothly. trim cylinders will retract slowly when pushed by the tilt cylinder.
