Ultrex works sometimes and sometime not

I have a 36V Ultrex on my Champ 203. The last several times out when I press the button on the foot pedal to move it will work. The the next time it won't. Any ideas on what may be the problem? I could also use the name of a shop in the Dallas area that could help me with this. TIA

    Search "Reed Switch"

That’s the switch under the "Momentary Button" on the pedal and it sounds like it needs to be adjusted

Thanks Roy. Is that something I will need to remove the pedal to do?

You may very well be right Roy. I watched several good videos and went ahead and ordered the actuator while they had them in stock. $14. Thanks for pointing me in the right direction brother!

Just had the same problem and it was the armature I went ahead and replaced the brushes and seals while I was in there. When mine wouldn’t work I could spin the prop then it would work again

You have to determine whether it is an armature problem or a reed switch problem. Observe if the armature does not start to turn if it stops in the same location and does not spin. If you move it a little and it it does spin then it is a bad armature. If the armature does not work no matter where it stops or it works intermittently then it may be the reed switch at fault. Try to adjust it and if it continues to do the same thing then replace it.

Thanks guys. I have the reed switch repair kit coming. Gonna give that a try first. Parts should be here this week and I'll post the results.

Mat be just the power circuit breaker from trolling motor batteries to trolling motor. Had the same thing happen with my Terrova. The switch had corroded, not allowing a good connection. Same thing with a buddy's new Cat and Ultrex. Quick easy fix.

I replaced the reed switch. Works better now but still doesn't want to start every time. Guess I'll take a look at the armature.

Try adjusting the reed switch up a little bit. If you raise it up too far it will run all the time. Sometimes you have to play with it to get it just right

The reed switch needs to be adjusted. Very small adjustments!

You can make this adjustment in your driveway or garage, deploy trolling, use a block of wood if needed to hold motor up some.

I don't have an Ultrex.....not familiar with the pedal construction. Does it have a "Con" or Constant setting that runs the motor button being pressed? This could confirm, or eliminate a problem with the reed swtich. If it works when set to con, but doesn't work on mom when pressing the button it's probably the reed switch adjustment. If it doesn't work on "con" the problem is probably elsewhere.

Hi Woody and Merry Christmas! Yes, it has a spot lock button. When I use it it will actually do the same thing. Forgot I had it on 10 it shut off so as I reached to set the button again with my hand it actually came on and almost threw me out of the boat.
