Which Trolling Motor are you running on your Tin Rig

Just picked up a Tracker PT185 yesterday. Debating on a new Trolling motor between a Minn kota 70 edge or a motorguide 70 x3. Not really enthusiastic about either one to be honest quality wise and may just put one of my OMC trolling motors on it for the time being. Curious as what some of you guys are running and how either one of these motors hold up. Thanks!

Have an RT 188. Had the Minn kota Maxxum 70 but about a year ago put a Garmin Force on it. Completely changed the handling of the boat, the wind is no longer a factor in the aluminum boat.

RT198 and I just replaced my 24 volt Ultrex with a 36 volt Ghost. Have repaired Ultrex as a spare.

My 16.5 Lund has a 24v, 80lb. Fortrex with a 52" shaft and US2, almost 11 years old and except for a new para-cord pull cord (OEM started to wear out), has been excellent. You can find these motors used cheap as some are going to "spot lock" motors. The Fortrex is much more durable than the Edge !

I am running an Ultrex. If you are close to Clarksville TN I have the then 1 year old 24V MK digital Maxxum 70 that was an upgrade when the boat was new sitting in the garage. I will sell it right if you can come fetch it.

Is the edge variable speed? or a 5 speed only? you'll want variable

Ran an 80lb terrova on my old PT190TX. If I still had it, it would most definitely have an Ultrex on it by now.

The terrova was great and offered spot lock but the Ultrex offers way faster turning with the pedal.

When I bought my 17 RT188 the Edge was 5 speeds and the upgraded Maxxum was digital variable speed. It works great, but I wanted the spot lock so I finally broke down and got one a few years ago. I agree which ever way you go get a digital variable speed.

I have owned an Edge and an Xi5. I would not buy these again and would not recommend either.

If you do not care about spot- or anchor-lock, then DEFINITELY get a cable steer motor and the Maxxum and Fortrex are really good. I know the Edge is cable steer but it is a far cry from these other 2 cable steer motors in terms of feel, control, quality.

If you want spot lock, take your pick. I am partial the the MG Tour Pro as it is cable steer and feels like a Fortrex/Maxxum as opposed to the other fly-by-wire steering options. Not knocking the Ultrex, Ghost, Force... they are great if not expense products.

    They're all too damn expensive!

I initially ran a 70# 24V Maxxum on my PT190. It served me well and had all the performance I needed and I used it for three years. Then my wife surprised me with a 80# Ultrex. I've had it almost two years and will not be without spotlock ever again.

I've got a Terrova on my Tracker Classic XL. A trolling motor with spot lock would be the first upgrade I'd do if I got a different boat.

Get a used or new takeoff 24v 80 lb thrust Fortrex. I got mine used for a few hundred from someone on here and it has been a great trolling motor, far better than the Edge 70 lb thrust that I replaced it with.

Tried one and it was bad right out of the box and customer service was terrible. Sent it back and put my Fortrex back on.

Ran a Fortrex on a Lowe 18HP and moved it to my RT188. As soon as the Ultrex came out, sold the Fortrex. Best accessory I've bought in 50 years of boat ownership,
