My advice would be to save your money until you can afford something with spot-lock. I had a 24 volt Maxxum 70 on my RT188 and it maneuvered it just fine. I replaced that motor with an Ultrex 2 years ago and I love it. Best thing I have done to the boat.
The best way to cheer yourself up is to cheer up someone else.
I have a 80# Fortrex on my RT178. Very happy with it.

EXACTLY MY EXPERIENCE. I still have the Maxuum if something happens to the Ultrex and I need it temporarily. Adding the Ultrex with all the features it has has been my best boat accessory purchase ever...by far. Minn Kota maxxum 70 for now. Have a force in the box with lithium batteries waiting for me to install. On a G3 talon 19.
Mine came with a 45lb Edge. Upgraded to a 55lb Maximum. Big improvement. My last upgrade, I went with a Terrova. Got the model with a foot pedal and remote. Wasn't sure that I would like the remote but I use it more than the pedal. Also, stayed with 12v. I have fished 8-9 hour club tournaments in brutally windy conditions and still had battery left. Adding a second battery to upgrade was a weight concern. Don't own a heated garage, so lithium is not an option. Boat is a Tracker TXW175

Performance of the TM? I like it alot. Performance of the RT198p? I like it alot. I run it with a 6" manual plate, no poles, 150 Merc reg non-ProXS 4S, 3 LA batts, just me with a 22p Tempest + 56.5mph @ 5800, 23p Bravo 1 FS 55.5mph same RPM better everything else.

i bought a 2022 ranger rt198p in November and it has a minn kota ultrex. have not had the boat on the water yet.
I had a 2003 g3 hp170se for 19 years. first motor I had a 70 pound 24 volt Maxxum. then had a minn kota power drive 80 pound 24 volt. then switched to a terrova.
