    Different battery decision.

If you check my signature it has a few specfications.
I need new batteries, I have read the forums and have just become more confused.
I believe Lithium batteries are out because of the temperature in the engine compartment where they reside, it gets hot in there with that big motor, add in the Texas summer. I think you get the picture.
I also have a couple of 16 lowrance graps point 1 and sonic hub and two tallons. I get about a year out of the cranking/house lead acid wet battery.
    The ultrex is a 24v.
Space is at a preimum on this boat.
I am thinking AGM would be an improvement but again it is confusing in the AGM market.
Weight is not so much of a problem as this boat is already heavy.
My goal would be a cranking battery that can handle cranking as well as deep discharges and trolling batteries that last as long as possible daily as well as total battery life.
Specific battery information would be helpful and appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Chuck

An AGM will last longer, but it’s performance as a deep-cycle will be the same as a conventional lead-acid.

It would be useful if you knew just how hot it gets in the compartment and for how long.
If you have integrity, nothing else matters. If you don't have integrity,
    nothing else matters.

I can tell you its still 150 degrees the morning after if I forget to leave the lid open overnight, during the summer.
Just think of an engine compartment from a vehicle with only a 4" tube to cool the air around it.
    It holds heat very well.

If you want an AGM get a Group 31 Duracell.

Odyssey 2150 if you want an AGM for cranking that can handle deep discharges better than most. Large RC on it as well.

This is the way I am leaning, reviews are top notch.
Would these be recomended fot the 24v trolling system also?

High priced AGMs are a waste of money. I use to run them and had bad experiences. You would be better off buying a cheap lithium for the same money. If you dont want lithium, get a lead acid.

It is not necessary to spend that kind of money for an AGM for the troller. If you want AGM, The Duracell suggested above would be a good choice at half the price and having a very substantial RC for cycling. You may just want to stick with flooded batteries for the troller though, as Caftan suggests in post #2 with regard to performance.

I just dont think the lithium can take the heat or I would jump on them.

Jump on them more than thousands of lithium battery users in Texas. Not sure where you are in Texas. I'm on the east side, no problems in 3 yrs with my Ionics. Good luck.

I'm curious why your engine compartment gets so hot. Don't you have any ventilation and /or fans to cool it? High temp is not good even for the engine. Sounds more like you have to reduce the heat, not get a different battery. Just my 2 cents
