    Livescope

I'm buying a new unit and have been putting it off. This unit for the time being will only be for livescope. I've looked at the 1242xsv, 1243xsv( not sure this one was with the newer style lense), today for kicks and giggles I went to bass pro so I could compare. The 3 together, yea now I'm even considering the 8612xsv. Of the 3 I definitely see a clear difference in clarity. But as I stated the display they had of the 1243xsv I'm sure was not the new version with the ips glass. Currently I run a 1042xsv and it's a good graph but the pixel count is lower and harder to see images. Honestly the 8612 seemed much clearer than the 42 or 43. But is the 8612 really worth the 1k more. I will add most likely later on will consider using the unit for sonar, side and down. Likely in the future will remove my lowerance console add a garmin for the console. I do like the gpsmaps over the echo models. Looking for ideals and folks that had the opportunity to compare the new 1243xsv to the 8612xsv in the real world. Im after picture clarity!.

Heck, the 8612 has a full HD screen, thats why its better than the 1243......per Garmin specs, the 1243 does not have an ISP screen, its a WXGA......

It is confusing one place it says ips and in the specs shows something else

Yea, maybe this prompts a call to GARMIN. I'm curious if the specs is old specs or a mis print. Honestly if the 1243 has the clear image as 8612. I'd save the 1k difference in price. The 8612 has alot of features I would never use, but if the 1243 has in fact not upgraded to ips I would definitely buy the 8612 for its clarity

If only for Livescope just get a 126 for $1500. There is no real clarity to LS, just blobs.

I went from a 1222 to 8412 and it was a waste of money at an image quality stand point. Just my opinion.

I am looking at the 1222 for livescope. That's all it will be used for. Based on your comment above, it sounds as if it will fit the application as well as the higher priced units.

I'm trying to plan ahead as eventually I will moving mostly Garmin. I like the gpsmap models for my own reasons. The 126 is a great unit no doubt. I had my mind made up on the 1243xsv until the side by side comparisons. As I stated I clearly seen difference in the IPS SCREEN. I will call Garmin to find out if it's a misprint. Going from a 1042xsv to any 12 inch model will show an improvement simply because of the pixel count on screen resolution

Both the 1243 and 8612 have an IPS screen. As you likely already know, it is the resolution that is different. The 8612 is Full HD (1920 x 1080 pixels) whereas the 1243 is WXGA (1280 x 800 pixels).

Thank Todd for clearing this up. I was aware of the resolution differences. Just was not not sure of whether the 1243xsv did in fact have the IPS. As I stated earlier there are some mis leading wording on the site. I believe I seen enough to there is a clear difference in the images

Just a update on my purchase. I went with the 8612xsv and new livescope plus. I have not had a chance to get everything swapped out yet. Was hoping to get it done over the holidays. But...... this cold weather put the project on hold. Can't wait to do the swap.!
