It is almost impossible to just fall overboard on a cruise ship. You have to be doing something pretty stupid to get in a position to be able to fall in the water.

Full disclosure, I’ve peed off a moving pontoon boat at night, severely impaired. Luckily the lord was holding me on the boat, giving me the chance to pass these impeccable genes on for the betterment of society.
Hopefully, that pontoon boat was filled with women of childbearing age, so you could get started passing those genes immediately.

Been drunk? Yes. Done something stupid while drunk? Not that I recall! I certainly didn't ponder jumping several stories into the ocean. But hey, I don't mean this person any ill will and I am glad for him and his family and friends that he survived. If he had not been found the family would never have a body to bury, have no conclusion as to what happened, and would have had to live with that. That's not good for anyone to bear.

We’ve been on quite a few cruises over the years and while I’m sure it’s not impossible, I believe a person would have to try or be significantly impaired to “accidently” fall overboard. In the “I’d rather be lucky than good” category, this person may have used up all the luck he will ever have to have survived not only 20 hrs in the ocean but the initial fall as well.
