Jacob DeGrom to Texas Rangers... 5 year deal.

    5 years/ $185 Milly..

    https://www.amazinavenue.com/2022/12...ing-free-agent

Those folks down in Texas have the new stadium, let's be honest, the old stadium was still 'new™'...

Add this with the Seager/Semian $$$

How can these salaries be sustained? MLB™ has already eliminated most of the Minor Leagues.

Stay Hydrated... with $6 beers.. Make those beers $10..

Texas Rangers have a baseball team too? Geez, our law enforcement only has a K-9 team.

I’m not typically a glass-half-empty guy, but it seems like the lack of a salary cap is going to be the downfall of Major League Baseball. Aside from the $10 beers, the small-market clubs selling off their best players—year after year—is painful to watch. Without some semblance of parity, or at least the possibility of same, 3/4 of the country’s potential fans will just get more and more tired of seeing the outflow of top players to the teams with the bucks.

This is not new and has nothing to do with this deal. Mets aren’t a small market team.

Apologies if I strayed from the specific deal. Certainly not new, but this case reminds me that high-dollar trades seem to be more prevalent each year, and it’s usually the small-market teams that suffer. As soon as a player has a great year or two with a small-market team, with free agency looming, they’re gone, and they don’t go to another small-market team. As for this specific deal, good for the Rangers [if it works out]. They also have lost some top-notch players in the past to teams willing to dangle bigger contracts. I’m a little sore about “my” Reds selling off 5 top players this year, but I’ll live.

The lack of a salary cap is one of the many paper cuts slowly bleeding the life out of MLB.

I remember when Dave Winfield signed with the Yankees in 81ish for a million per year and everyone thought this huge deal was going to ruin baseball,it didn’t and this won’t. What ruining baseball is lots of other things like 4hr games and batters stepping out of the box(that is an issue they have kinda worked on). Baseball is a game steeped in nostalgia and nostalgia isn’t a young persons game. iF heathy might not be worse deal ever because the man can pitch but he hasn’t hit 100 innings in three years!

Small market teams can't afford to buy their way to a championship. They get outspent. Sure there will be some small market teams that will be competitive for one or two seasons with young prospects or retreads having a good season, but their success won't be consistent due to departing talent looking for a bigger payday.

But how is that ruining baseball. It’s always been like that. At least as long as I’ve been watching (~30 years). Baseball still going strong.

Not having a salary cap is major contributor to baseball sucking. You just don’t have the parity like you do in other sports. Amounts to who is going to try and buy the best team.

    5 smallest market mlb teams

    1. Brewers -made the playoffs 4 times in last 10 years. Was competing for a playoff spot until the last week of the 2022 season.
    2. Royals - won the world series in 2015 (Yankees haven’t even won since 2009)
    3. Reds - made playoffs 2 of last 10 years.
    4. Pirates - made playoffs 3 of last 10 years.
    5. Rays- perennial contenders. Playoffs 5 of last 10 years. Played in the World Series twice (08, 20).

Let’s not forget the As (longest win streaks), Padres (NLCS 22), Orioles (3 world series wins), Indians and cardinals (speak for themselves).

And would be way better than this with a salary cap…
