Considering making the switch to Phoenix..

Well the time has come to part with my old basscat and go to something new. I am considering a Phoenix 721 but the only one I have been in was a 2013 and the boat walked at relatively low speeds 63-65mph to the point of it getting uncomfortable.”my cat hits around 75 before walking close to as bad”

Was the boat I rode in just not tuned properly causing it to walk at low 60’s or is this typical of Phoenix?

Also any info regarding a 721 or 920 would be appreciated, such as suggested upgrades, likes and dislike etc.

    thanks

Did you drive the 721? I’m going on a limb and say if you can drive your cat at 75, you should no problem doing the same in any bass boat assuming it is set up properly.

My 919 would walk at mid 60,s when I first got it, but it was me, now I run low 70’s consistently, but it will start to walk upper 60’s if I let it

I did run it one of the trips but 20mph wind on texoma never got a chance to actually open it up to play with the walk myself.

If you personally never drove it then it’s driver. My 721 will walk at 65 easy if I drive it with no hands.

I had a 2013 721 and it would walk over 72 a little! I miss it, stupid me to sell it.

my 919 didn't want to walk until above 75, I dont think I could make the new 920 elite walk but it has not been above 75 yet but Yamahas are less prone to walk because they like all the trim you can give them where some with Mercs can easily be over trimmed to quick

Around 72-73 before I would have to start adding some input into my old 721. Pretty much the same with my 920.

Thanks for all the replies. Helped my buddy adjust his jackplate up some and ran it this weekend was able to touch 74 with very little walk. So puts Phoenix as my top pick. Now I just gotta debate on is a 920 worth the extra cost over a new 721

I think a lot of variables could have been in play here. Was he running a jackplate? Manual or hydr? If so, was it set correctly? Did he have his boat loaded appropriately? Did he trim out right? How much gas? I don’t run a 721 but I have a 921 and mine starts walking a bit around 73 but I’ve loaded accordingly and have messed with my hydr jp and trim settings a lot to get dialed in.

I've got a 2014 721 and something is up with that boat/driver. Mine doesn't walk until 70 and I havent even checked the P2P or messed with the jackplate.

My 2014 721 will start to walk around 70 with no input. Don’t really have to start driving it until 72ish.

my 920 takes very little input. You have to give no input for a pretty good distance before it gets noticeable. If you can drive a Cat you can drive a 920 easy.

71-72 before my 721 started to walk with the standard 10" jack plate.
With the 12" plate on now it barely walks at 74-75 and I really wouldn't even call it walking. It's just the hull rocking from chop or waves that needs a little input to balance back out.

same with my 921 but it’s minimal & controllable.

I wouldn't let that deter a 721 purchase. The chine walking is a fixable thing just needs seat time. 721 is a great value compared to others in the same class.

What prop were you getting above 75 in your 919?
