It seems that there are more great female vocalists than there are male vocalists. Is that true or just my perception?

First to come to mind was Whitney then I thought about Minnie Riperton. Minnie had an almost unheard of 5 octave range and she could use every bit of it. But my personal favorite is Aretha Franklin

Not sure it’s fair to compare Alison’s voice to the other mere mortals.

Allison Krause gives me goosebumps every time. As well as I hate to admit it, the chicks "traveling soldier"

Another Alison Krauss fan here. Whitney was great. And so was Olivia Newton John, been a fan of hers since the beginning.

As far as male vocalists go, I think Steve Perry was one of the best.

Just to throw a different twist into the mix, do a You Tube search for the acapella group HOME FREE. Incredible voices, and the bass/baritone has an upper range into the tenor group. all have amazing voices.

I prefer to hear a woman singing in my ear, rather than another dude. Not that there's anything wrong with the other option...

    Just some personal choices

Ralp Sheepers is a relatively unknown one outside the metal scene but his pipes are epic. However the combination of Sheepers, Kai Hansen and Frank Beck here is incredible.
