    Bps gear oil

Anybody using the bps ultra high performance gear oil. How do you think it compares to merc oil in a 250 pro xs. People at shop says it is good to use.

I just get the quicksilver/merc for gear oil. I deviated once for two seasons and then had a LU failure. Coincidence or something that was coming anyway?? Maybe…but I just stick with the name brand stuff now.

Another Reminder: Please take a moment to review the Forum Announcements, and be sure to provide the Required Info (serial number) when posting. Thanks!

Having seen numerous gearcases apart that ran the Merc HP lube (even where some amount of water had made it past a bad seal), it would be pretty hard to sell me on something else for the application. Full-Synthetic with fluid emulsifiers to help prevent problems with water... not sure what to improve on that.

Besides- if it's not, are they gonna back the gearcase?

I've never had anything that said Mercury on the bottle be bad for my engine. BPS stuff comes from a blender that had low bid, might be different stuff next year.

I'm sure it's decent stuff. For any incremental savings, if there is any, it's just not worth the loss in peace of mind. This is a once a year maintenance step.
