Replace Carpet, 20 or 24 oz

For those that have used one or both. What is your thoughts. I have re-done two boats with 20oz, Have not used 24oz. Sure looks and feels a lot better than the 20oz

Crank68 is correct it’s thicker and basscat carpet is the best out there. They now use a 28oz carpet. My new lynx has it and it’s great.

The only worry with changing thickness of carpet is will your boat have the room between the lids to open and close without a pry bar.

If you don't want to deal with binding lids and shaving rug, just add padding under the carpet. 1/4" padding with 20 oz carpet will feel better under foot that straight 24, and when the 24 gets beat down, how thick is it?

Syntec sells, 16, 24, and now 28 oz carpet. Syntec does not manufacture 20oz carpet. Syntec produces generally what boat manufacturers use in production. The 20oz carpet is not made by Syntec. When asking about the 20oz carpet ask them is 20oz weight after it has been sheared or before? It makes a difference as it might state it is 20oz. Look at 16oz syntec and a 20oz sample weight catpet. You will see the 160oz Syntec is the same as the 20oz.
    16oz Syntec,
bend sample at 90 degees simulating a lid corner, you will see considerably less of the backing and look at the fiber, you will see it is tightly weaved fiber.

    20oz carpet
    backing is dry,
fibers appear dense as the shearing process splits the fiber ends,
bend the corner simulating a lid door at 90 degrees and you will see the black backing,
long term wear results in fibers coming loose, example areas are rear deck at livewell doors and front deck.

Syntec 16 once isn't as thick 20 ounce, I have rolls of 20 ounce, installed hundreds of yards of 20 ounce, syntec 16 isn't as thick, it's 2 ounce more than 14 aquarurf and 4 ounces lighter tha bayshore and bayside. There's now way I would want to pawn off 16 ounce aggressor as a 20 ounce carpet.
