New SHO 250 - break in?

I just picked up a new 2022 SHO 250. My buddy has one and the shop
he got his told him to “break it in” 1500 rpm for a hour, 3000 rpm for a hour and so on, varying rpm the entire time. The shop I got mine from said to run it, just vary rpm for the first 10 hours… any Yamaha guys here with the answer?

I agree with the shop you purchased yours from. And they will be the ones repping you with Yamaha if there are any issues. The first hour is the most important time to seat rings and you wont do it at idle. The Yamaha instructions are the worst way to do it and the results are proof with all the making oil issues. If you must follow something written use Mecurys break in procedure. JMHE. CJ

I did my new 250 exactly the way Yamaha said this past June. It ran great all summer (although not often enough). I just put it away for the winter and it didn't make any oil.
