    Late fall crappie

Or early winter. Do you guys have much luck this time of year?
I haven’t been fishing of any kind much since June due to work, heat or laziness. Have a couple days off next week and would like to grease the skillet. Thanks for any insight as to where to start.

For me, the pleasant fall weather is a great time to be on the lake, but catching crappie is never very good then. About the time the weather gets cold enough it’s not pleasant to be on the lake I start catching numbers of crappie again.

Thanks guys. I have had couple good days in January but haven’t been November or December. In January here it was dock fishing.

I started in early Oct this year, a week or 2 later than normal. Fishing has been pretty good, decent numbers and big fish. Fishing 8'-10' deep using jigs. Usually good through the winter. Mid Sept thru Feb-March is my favorite time.

Forgot to mention, I fish KY Lake

Right now in Eastern Iowa on the Mississippi River is the best time IMO to go catch slabs. Yes the weather gets cold as heck but they feed up now and with the cold water the fillets are the best. Been doing pretty good so far this Fall.

I've been catching them in 15 to 20 ft on brush piles, water in upper 60 to lower 70.
Jigs have been best early morning and switch to minnows later in the day.
Have put right at 160 keeper size in the boat in the last 2 weeks.

Where are you fishing for them? I have had decent luck in the past on Old Hickory in the main channel around structure 10-15' deep.

Finally made it out on Thanksgiving day. Was mainly trying to learn the livescope I got Black Friday last year. Did catch 7 short crappie and bunch of gills. Water temp 52 degrees on old hickory. What a beautiful day.
