I am looking at recoating (plus changing color) of some jig heads.
What is the best way to remove the weed guards without damaging the jig head if possible.
I know heat will work; but too much will damage the lead.
Would a hair dryer work?
Thanks

They should just pull out with some pliers and effort.

Most epoxy I've used will soften way before lead will melt. I use Gorilla epoxy for my weed guards on the swim jigs I pour, I split the guards in half for each jig and half a guard is a lot smaller than the hole in the jig...anyway when they come out crooked after the epoxy cures I can use either a grill lighter or head gun to soften it and pull them out (if they don't first come out just pulling on them with some pliers). Never had one of the heads melt or deform. The weed guards will melt together though but doesn't matter.
Thanks for all the replies. I'll try the easiest first.
I've had good luck getting hold of them with needle nose or vise grips as close to the jighead as possible, then gently rocking back and forth or twisting. You can usually can hear the glue or epoxy crack or otherwise feel it start getting loose. Then the weed guard wiggles out without much effort at all.
