    Question 2005 TR196 Propping question / advice

I have replaced a 150 with a 200 EFI and I'm struggling with propping. I put a new Fury 3 25p and I can't get over 4800RPM out of it. Can I buy an aluminum Blackmax 14" 23P and get a test before I spend another 750 on a stainless? Does pitch = pitch regardless of base metal? Appreciate any advice on this.

Much cheaper to have that one taken down a pitch. Something’s not right though. You should be turning the 25 at 800 more rpm’s at least.

Whats your p2p? Might need to raise motor a little.

"You should be turning the 25 at 800 more rpm’s at least." -- That's what I thought as well. I've taken the motor to the shop twice and they tell me everything checks out fine.

    "
Whats your p2p" -- I want to say close to 3" but I'll check that again as well. If I trim it way up I can get 5k rpm.

Maybe try to raise it a bit. Maybe 2.5---2.75?

    I run a 25p fury 4 in summer & 26p tempest plus in winter w/ 8” bms hydraulic jackplate & 200 opti.

Your efi should turn a lit more than 4800 @ wot…..likely engine issue, or you are not getting 100% throttle.

Aluminum prop will not perform the same as a ss prop of same pitch (due to flex).

Once you ensure engine is not the problem I Suggest you have local prop shop check out your prop & ask if they might loan you a used ss prop to test.

Confirm motor getting 100% tps power with merc scanner tool, maybe after install/ swap your not reaching full throttle (adjustment of cables-linkages)

A 25 Fury will turn similar to a 26 tempest.

I turn a 26 tempest in summer and 27 in cooler weather. I turn them 54-5600 and run low to mid 70’s.

make sure you are getting full throttle and typically I run 2 to 2-1/2” below pad.

are you running full throttle and trim?

Work has kept me from boat stuff. I should be able to check the prop to pad this weekend. As to the full throttle at trim.. I can get to 5k but any higher on the trim makes it nearly impossible to steer affectively. One other thing I failed to mention - when I had the 150 on it, without jack plate, I could hit 60mph with the right load. There was some chine walk but this thing at 50ish with this motor and set up is a handful to drive. Somting wong.

Actually, you are saying you can't drive it above 4800 rpms due to the hull doing crazy stuff. If you know someone around who has a 19,20 21 foot Triton asks them to go to the water with you, those were a hand full to drive for a lot of folks. I sold them for years and made lots of trips to the lakes with folks who thought they had a problem. Most of the time a few minor adjustments made a big difference but getting use to those speeds and handling in seat time took care of it.

2005 TR-196, 200 Opti, 6 inch plate and a 26 Tempest Plus. I think a 25 Tempest on mine is a better fishing prop. It's not as fast and will get on the limiter, but get's up out of the hole better when the wells are full and you have a fishing partner with you.

You may need to raise your motor some. Start at 3 inches PTP and move it up 1/4 inch until you find the sweet spot.

    Here's a clip of mine running 70+
