    0x66 vs hdpi

Hey guys just looking for some opinions, I have a 2001 ox66 225 it's getting some hours on it but still running good-I put Pistons and hydrotech heads on it last year, friend of mine in the fishing club has an 08 hpdi 250
i believe it's a series 2-not sure of the hours-but he said he'd sell it to me for 5500-thinking about keeping my ox66 but maybe buying this motor what would you guys do? thanks in advance. Chad

From what I have read over many years, thd HPDI is more prone to engine issues.

You can read many, many posts discussing blown HPDI’s (250 hp).

Call Hydrotec and get their input. I can’t imagine upgrading from your 0X66, especially after your recent upgrades.

Chad, keep the Ox66.Easier to maintain and less parts to fail. When I was looking for a boat with a Yamaha the mechanic told me to get either the Yamaha OX66 or the mercury efi. Both reliable motors. The Hdpi at best will get 10 percent better fuel efficiency.

Keep the OX66. The HPDI was prone to powerhead failure. Keep the OX66 running right with proper maintenance, and they go and go.

When I repowered my boat I could have went with just about any engine to rebuild and the OX was first in line. One of the best Yamaha has put out. CJ
