    V8 Battery life

I was interested in the typical battery life members were seeing that use cranking batteries over 1000 CCA vs those with 900+ cranking amps. I realize how we care for batteries, fishing applications and other factors are important but to keep it simple just the cranking amps and life. I read the manual wrong when I bought the 300R and used a 760 CCA battery (800 MCA) and the battery life has been about 2 years. It only runs the engine, and GPS speedo, no stereo or other items. To comply with forum rules my 300R serial number is 1E080852.

I think it's more a matter of environment, provided both a 1000 cca and 900 cca are sufficient to crank. Here in Florida, we get about 3 years out of an AGM due to the heat. I managed a 2006 26' Whaler with 225 verados since new. Batteries last about 3 years and it didn't matter which brand of AGM. I tried Odyssey, Optima, Deka, and Northstar gold in it over the years.

I never had much luck with agm's lasting. Ok when new, down hill in a year or so.

I've had 2 gp31 AGMs, both 1150CCA. First was the Sears PM-1 purchased in 2012, still have it and it still passes a load test. Replaced it with a Northstar gp31 AGM in 2018 (?) which remains today. Never an issue with either one.

You did very well, but it was 1150 CCA agm's on the 150 Optimax. The V8 DTS engines appear to be much harder on batteries but hopefully more members will chime in.

I've had my AGM starting battery (1150 CCA) for 6 years - 3 years with a Verado 250 XS and 3 years with a 200 HP ProXS 4 stroke V8 (2B591233) with no problem. I charge it every outing with a 15 amp charger. It also goes all winter without being charged (6 months)

When mine is off the water, it's on the charger (NOCO Gen 2 3-bank) 24/7. Personally believe that's why I've gotten such long service from both my AGMs.

If you would, please take a few moments to review the Announcements at the top of the Forum, and be sure to provide the Required Info (serial number) when posting. Thanks!

In this case, the battery was insufficient from Day #1. All down-hill from there.
