    Old Champ Update

Thought I would update on the project. Purchased the boat without a motor from the repo man last fall and someone shared a comment that they hoped I was young as this project could be a long one. Well I don't have enough patience when I want something like this bad enough. Installed a 2011 Yamaha 225 digital, all new controls, stripped out all wiring and ran new, had a new dash panel made out of carbon fiber material (sexy), had decals for registration and motor made to match carbon fiber, motor was painted black at an auto body shop, installed helix 9on dash, lowrance on bow, installed new minn kota 80lb Ultrex, all new livewell, recirc and bilge pumps, and a manual slidemaster jack plate. Yamaha hasn't been able to link the gauges to the motor at this point, so I ran the boat all summer not completely set up. The motor isn't quite high enough yet but don't want to run without any idea of my RPMs. At just over 3/4 throttle, trimmed out to a happy place, she runs 67.

This must be the Dale Earnhardt Champ. Don't think I've ever seen Champ entirely black. Definitely a cool ride...

It's a 1990 201. The first two owners babied her and the owner that the boat was repo'd from didn't have the same respect. She's definitely back to being babied. Sweetest ride I've ever had so far in my boating experiences.

Tourney loaded 67 is about it with a 225, assuming you don't have a flippin deck insert. Put one of those in and more like 65.

What seats are you using? Not much room in the 201 for big cushy seats unless maybe with an adjustable steering column.
