    1999 125 won't stay in reverse

I picked up this motor last weekend. I did some minor work on it to get it running, plugs and fuel lines.

I have it running on the stand right now but it won't stay in reverse. When I slide the shift connector all the way to the rear, the lower will go into reverse and the prop will spin correctly, but when I let go it pops out. I don't seem to have any problem with forward.

    I appreciate any suggestions.

Control handle and cable HOLD the shift linkage at the reverse position. That gearcase has spring-loaded mechanisms so it's imperative it be properly connected to control/cables, AND that the cables be properly adjusted.
