    Lipless Baits

Which lipless bait do you use in different weather conditions? I've been using silent lipless bait on bluebird days with some luck. A normal lipless on rainy days works well. But when do you use a small or large bait? Under what other conditions do you throw a lipless bait?

Last year was one of the few years I fished pretty much all 12 months and I was pleasantly surprised at how good the lipless & squarebill bite was in the coldest months

For whatever reason in my neck of the woods, a lipless just hasn't been very effective. I have a TON of the original Xcalibur XR 50 and XR 25 Rattles and One Knockers, as I think they are some of the best lipless baits ever made. But I bet I find myself throwing a lipless bait less than 5% of the time I am on the water, maybe less. And that is only because I just don't seem to get bit when I throw it.

Funny that your from Maine and don't get bit much on lipless baits. I'm at the Northern Rally at Cobbe every year and throw lipless alot. Fish a lot of surrounding lakes with success on a lipless bait. Smallies love them up there at least for me.

Time of year? Spring? I can't remember the last time I caught a smallie on a lipless. It is going on 4 years now in a spring of the year, rayburn red. Other than that, its been a while. Maybe I am doing something wrong or fishing it in the wrong places...

Rayburn red is not a good color for the northeast. Try using shad colors.

No seasonal limitations for me, I use it when the conditions are right. I fish them like a jig and slow roll them deep. Rarely casting and winding straight back in.
