    Outdoor wood protectant?

In the coming days I’m planning on wrapping some old column posts in the front of my house with cedar to square them off and modernize a bit. Currently they are white painted old Victorian style deals.

my wife would love for me to use a pretty dark stain on them like walnut or the like. What kind of final seal should I apply to protect them from weather?

I’ve used Cabot on my projects in the past with great results but it’s more pricey than the other brands. I think Thompson is the more popular brand though.

On cedar I’ve had good luck with TWP. It comes in different shades.
