Day 1 Senior Men’s Club Championship

Got to play in cooler cloudy weather today in Oklahoma.
I played very well for me and shot my second lowest round of the year-79.
3 birdies and 3 missed 12 inch putts.
    Birdied 18 to break 80.
Leading my flight gross/3rd place net.
My handicap dropped to single digit 9 for the first time in a very long time.
    Seniors are 50 and over.
I turned 66 Friday and could have played with the Super Seniors at 65 and over but I still can compete with the younger set.
I enjoy competitive golf especially after 13 months off recovering last year.
We will see if I can back it up today!

Rained hard this morning but not hard enough to cancel.
We delayed about an hour and then teed off in a slight rain.
Stumbled and bumbled on the front to a 44.
Then 8 over for the back nine after double bogeying 16!
But finished birdie/birdie for my last two holes as a member at the Golf Club of Oklahoma.
It is a beautiful course surrounded by woods with a lake and ponds. No houses on the course.
The other players had similar tougher rounds in the wet as well and I won my flight by 1 stroke.
I hope to find a golf course around Tyler Texas that is as beautiful as GCO.
My wife also competed in the Ladies Championship for the last two days. Then spent 2 hours with the group of ladies for her going away party. She will miss them dearly.
Golf has been and will continue to be a big part of our lives that we enjoy together and with friends.
    We have been blessed.

You are correct. We will meet good people with similar interests (at least golf and outdoors) and make new friends.
Golf also is a great indicator of character. I told my wife that years ago as she began her search to join women’s golf groups around Denver.
She made some lifelong friends, we enjoyed traveling with other couples on golf trips and we enjoyed weekend golf/Monday night golfer’s bowling leagues during the winter months.
I met one man in Tyler who commented on my Titliest hat that I always wear, even while fishing. He turned out to be an exGolf pro from down in Austin. We hit it off, he offered to help on subcontractor recommendations and had a house for sale that he invited me to look at which I did.
I find that if you are friendly and welcoming you will make new good friends. Golfing or fishing with them will show you who they really are.

There is nothing compared to the Golf Club of Oklahoma, I played there a lot after it first opened, lived in Tulsa at the time, great golf course, even stayed in on of the cabins a few times, love that place, there's a few good courses in Tyler, but it's been awhile since I've been there

Well, update to golf report. I have played zero rounds since July 31.
Broke my right big toe on August 8th when I tripped over a cleat on a dock in the dark getting into someone else's boat.
Dropped me like a rock-but on the dock at least.
Surgery to pin the broken bone chip 2 weeks later.
See the doc Wednesday to get my two week follow up.
No golf and no fishing has made me a little grumpy.
I need to get out and go again-soon!
Just another reminder that life can change quickly. Fortunately this one is relatively short term and self inflicted.
Another reminder to move slowly and thoughtfully as well-especially in the dark.
    Enjoy your golf today!
