    Update: Just picked her up from Mat at HydroTec Marine. Great guy and people there. Locator pin failure on piston #1 was the cause. He said this exact issue is (as we know from this forum) pretty common with these HPDIs. They rebuilt mine using WSM pistons so I’m excited about that. Can’t wait to get her on the water again.

    I also asked him about fuel. I have always used 87 100% fuel non-ethanol. He recommends (like yam911 has said) to use higher octane 91 plus Ring Free. Even if it has up to 10% ethanol - as long as it doesn’t sit forever and gunk up.

    Took the boat out for the first time today since the rebuild. Idled around a lot then ran it off and on at different RPM ranges. Ran like a scolded dog! Idled extremely smooth. Even caught one almost 6. Solid day.
