    more 2022 518 setup stuff

so my boat now has 4.5hrs on it.it has a 200 proxs and came with a 22 fury.i installed a 8 inch rapidjack plate.my prop to pad is sittting at 3.5 inchs.the few times i have leaned into it,im still only seeing 52-5300 rpm at 61 mph.the boat still has 3/4 tank of fuel and a light fishing load.something still dosnt seem right..any advice?there are a couple of guys on a ranger group on facebook running 21pitch tempest plus 3 blades and are turning 61-6200 rpm suppose ably...should i buy a tempest perhaps?it just seems really funky to use a 21 pitch on a 200hp motor when all my 2stroke 200hp motors had a 24-25 pitch.

Raise the motor up to 3.25 if you have enough water pressure and see how that does.

From what I’ve been seeing for the last few years with the 4 stroke Mercury they like a smaller prop then the previous 2 strokes. I’m not sure if it’s the lowers that are different but it definitely seems to be the trend. Has the dealer confirmed with the computer that your seeing 100% throttle? That’s been pretty common also and it’s set electronically.

Whether or not the prop is your problem, the gearing of the 4-stroke engine definitely is different from that of a 2-stroke and requires a smaller pitch.

I disagree. The ones I have seen are running 1.75:1 gears, same as the two strokes. Mercury under pitches the props to provide a good hole shot and raises the red line to give top end speed. The new v8’s don’t have the bottom end torque to turn the 25-27 pitch props that most guys were running on the two strokes. Put a 25 on a v8 250 and it would take forever to,plane out. Try it,you’ll see what I mean.

update..i took my boat to a local merc dealer and asked them to see if it was getting 100% demand linear.the place turned out to be a joke.the service manger turned out to be a 23yr old kid who couidnt comprehend what i was asking for.he said he scanned the motor and it showed no faults and was doing what it was supposed to do on the engine side, but didnt check anything with the hot foot..lol..so i took the boat home and raised the motor to 3 inchs p to p.ran the boat and gained 100 rpm,so now im at 5400 and 61mph..very frustrating.i feel like when i can get get this thing to run at 6-6200 it will fly.im wondering if my prop is not really a 22 ,but a mismarked 23?..i will say,the hole shot is killer though.and my water pressure gauge is still pinned when running with the hot foot floored.

If the prop was a pitch lower than what it's marked you would be getting more RPMs, not less. I'm not familiar with the 200s and what pitch everyone is running but my 225 runs a 23 pitch fury and I tried a 22 fury and hit the max RPMs with lower speed than the 23 so take that for what its worth.

What rpm and MPH did your boat run before you added the jackplate?

Sounds like you still need to have someone verify you are in fact getting 100% throttle opening.

the throttle body swap maybe, these smaller v8 motor run out of air on big end? crunched your numbers and a 21p at 6200 rpms is same speed with 9% slip so maybe play with ptp a little?

9% slip might ask marks propellers for help to lower slip (IF POSSIBLE)?
