When you guys are reporting speeds?

When you report a top end speed, is this done under the best conditions, light load, one person, empty livewells, 1/4 tank of gas etc? I have yet to see 69-70 mph out my TRX 18 with pro xs 200 4 stroke. I keep reading and hearing about it and most people are shocked to hear that I have not reached that speed. If I take an average, based on conditions of load, air temp, water temp, I can say that I average around 65-66 mph.

My top speed in my 19 TRX Patriot with a 225 is only 71.4 so far. I may be able to stretch it out with more trimming and weight reduction.

This was with my wife in the boat, full tank of gas, and a medium load of tackle/ gear.

Yeh I think that is about right. I had TR20 with 225 opti and would get 72 max. tournament load, but usually 69. I just find it hard to believe the TRX 18 with 200 pro xs 4s is breaking 70. seems more like a 65-68 kind of boat

My best has been 67mph with 1/4 tank of fuel and by myself. That was with a 24 tempest. I had the spark plugs replaced and trying a 22 tempest now. The best speed in similar conditions has been 65 mph. I am still getting seat time and getting the boat dialed in. I also have a 23 bravo 1 fs to try. I think breaking 70 mph is going to be limited to perfect conditions with light load. But, it seems to be a solid mid 60’s boat. That’s more than adequate for me. Most lakes around here become impossible to run wfo in the afternoon due to boat traffic or windy conditions anyway.

Well mine is running a 22 tempest and getting 6100-6200 rpms, 65-66 average.

Top speed is always tournament load.
You know. Buddy on call in case you run out of fuel. Trolling batteries removed. Downwind with current.

I have hit 71 mph with no gear in the boat and a full tank of gas running alone and 70 with all my gear and half a tank of gas or so. I run very heavy on gear. With my dad with me it runs 68 pretty consistantly with a crammed full tank of gas around 67ish. Thats with a 24p bravo prop atlas 6” jack plate running about 2.25” ptp and dual power pole blades. Havnt ran solo light on gear since the blades but they didnt effect performance much at all honestly. If you are running in the 66-68 range with alot of gear youre right in the area.

The two top speeds I quote were both in cool weather and measured by gps:

Light load, 1/2 tank of fuel 1 person ( driver; me ) TM 3 batteries, empty live wells 70 mph. Prop Bravo FS 24 P

Tournament load, 3/4 tank of fuel, 2 adults on board 200+ lbs each, empty live wells 68.7 mph gps. Prop Tempest Plus 22 P

Elevation just above sea level as I live near Mobile Bay.

    Hope this helps.

EDIT: Roy TritonTRXV8 was very helpful to me as I was setting up my boat. Mine came with a 23 Fury and I wanted to find a better option. Roy tried several props before settling on a Bravo FS 24P.

During his prop testing I learned the Fury was about 2 pitches stiffer than a Bravo and the Tempest Plus ran about 1" stiffer.

I now run a 24 P Bravo FS as my primary prop and a 22 P Tempest Plus as my backup.

    Thank you again Roy

best I ever saw was 68. half tank, full gear, empty livewells, me and my son, he's 100 lbs, I am 150. I bet if I cleared all my gear, 1/4 tank, me alone, going with the tide, I would hit 70. but it seems day in and day out, it's a 65 mph boat, with tournament load, and maybe even less than 65 at times depending on the weather

I tried a 23p bravo 1 fs today. Not the best day to make a run with it being windy.

PTP is prop to pad i.e. the distance from level prop shaft to level bottom of hull pad.

Your speed seems pretty good. If your engine is a 2 stroke and your rpm report is accurate you are pretty close. If a 4.6L V8 four stroke you need to be turning 6000-6200 with 6200 being more desirable due to power and torque curve of the V8s.

your PTP should be in the 3 to 3 1/2" below pad to start. Watching water pressure increase engine height until water pressure and/or speed drops. Your handling will likely improve with engine raised.

The problem seems to be the V8 200 on this particular hull had such a wide rpm and speed variance. Everything first should be based on sea level elevation to try and level the playing field. The second point is the 200 comes with 2 different lower units, the TM 1.75 ratio and the 4.88” in the 1.85 ratio. Many 200 owners are frustrated that they cannot get 6-6200 with a reasonable pitch prop of 23 or 24 depending on which lower unit. Anyone that can spin a 24 Bravo FS at over 6000 and 70mph is as rare as rocking horse crap. The theory of constantly dropping pitch just for rpm and poor gas economy with no speed gain gets under my craw. If you can turn 6100 with a 24p on the TM 1.75 you’re getting 10.36% slip at 71mph and have 1 of the rare 200’s that will actually rev.
I believe the most common package runs 65ish, 5600ish and that’s about where this highly restricted 200 runs.

Add 2 degree (positive) wedge plate when upgrading to 4 stroke on Triton hulls. This comes directly from Merc field technicians

My engine is a 2014 Mercury 225 HP 2 stoke and has always run very well from the dealer. I have never had any tuning on the prop although I have sent to to Mark for repair. I love the boat, had I bought at 20XS with a Mercury 250 HP, I would have gotten a boat 6" longer but I can't imagine I would have seen much difference in speed or fishing patform

My boat came with a 24P tempest and would only run about 5400 rpms. I took it back to the dealer for them to check it out. They told me this engine came with 2 different gears. One was supposed to have a 24P tempest and one was supposed to have a 22P. They swapped mine to a 22P and I was able to hit 6000 rpms. I have since found that the 23p bravo 1 fs is a great prop for this boat. The midrange performance is incredible. I have a hydraulic jackplate and found the bravo 1 fs prop likes to run very high. I can run it at almost the top of the jackplate range (within 1/2”). This prop really changed the boat performance.
