Post Humminbird Mega 360 Information Resource

I have archived the previous Humminbird 360 Imaging Information Resource. It is still available to review and post in but it is not "sticky" any longer. You can find the previous thread at --> http://www.bbcboards.net/showthread.php?t=173633

This thread will be the Information Resource going forward for discussions and questions on all current and future models of the Mega 360. I will make a few informational posts to get things kicked off and then the thread will be open for business.

Can MEGA 360 be shared between the HELIX and SOLIX over Ethernet?

No. If the MEGA 360 is connected to a SOLIX – it can only be shared over Ethernet to other SOLIX units. If the MEGA 360 is connected to a HELIX G3N or G4N with MEGA Imaging+, it can only be shared over Ethernet to other HELIX units.

How does the MEGA 360 connect?

The new MEGA 360 connects the same way that a conventional 2D, DI, or SI transducer connects. The MEGA 360 can be connected directly alongside a second transducer with a transducer splitter cable.

For a Helix you have to use the 14 M360 2DDI Y cable with a Minnkota built-in MEGA Imaging transducer and then convert the 14-pin male unit plug to 7-pin with either the included 10' 14-pin to 7-pin adapter or the 3' Minnkota MKR-MI-1 adapter.

    Only use the 9 M360 2DI Y cable if a Humminbird SI+ or DI+ transducer is used.

For SOLIX units use: 14 M360 2DDI Y (720108-1). If the MEGA 360 is connected in addition to another transducer, sonar options will be 2D, DI, 360, and SI from the MEGA 360. Stand-alone SI will not be an option while the MEGA 360 is connected

What is the MEGA 360 wet switch used for?

The MEGA 360 wet switch automatically stops MEGA 360 pinging/rotation while the transducer is out of the water, in order to prevent wear and tear.
The MEGA 360 and Humminbird unit remember if the user had pinging turned on or off, and when the MEGA 360 is put back into the water, it will resume the users selected previous operation mode.

Humminbird Brings MEGA 360 Imaging™ To Ice Fishing

RACINE, Wis. (October 08, 2020) – Humminbird’s® exclusive MEGA 360 Imaging™ sonar has provided anglers with unrivaled detail in every direction around their boat. With the introduction of the new MEGA 360 Imaging Ice Adapter, Humminbird brings that exclusive technology to ice fishermen.
Humminbird’s MEGA 360 Imaging Ice Adapter allows anglers to utilize the MEGA 360 transducer to see a clear and sharp view under the ice, up to 125 feet around the hole. Ice anglers can eliminate the guesswork and quickly find structure and fish without drilling as many holes, track schools of fish as they move, and know which direction the fish are headed.
“Anglers have been successfully using MEGA 360 Imaging on the open water to identify structure and fish to make every minute on the water more effective,” said Matt Cook, Humminbird brand manager. “Bringing this technology to the ice will give hardwater anglers the same ability to be more efficient and productive and ultimately help them find and catch more fish."

Can I connect other transducers at the same time as the MEGA 360?

Yes. HW, HW/MEGA DI+, HW/MEGA DI+/MEGA SI+ imaging transducers can be connected in conjunction with the MEGA 360. Built-In MEGA DI+ from a Minn Kota trolling motor can also be connected at the same time as a MEGA 360. A transducer splitter cable is needed to do this. Use a 9 M360 2DDI Y (HELIX) (720107-1) or a 14 M360 2DDI Y (SOLIX) (720108-1) accessory cable.
If an MEGA SI+ transducer is connected with one of these y-cables, the Humminbird will not be able to get SI data from the MEGA SI+ transducer – only HW and MEGA DI+ will be available. However, the user can get MEGA SI data from the MEGA 360.
US2 Minn Kota transducers and Humminbird transducers that are 83/200 or 50/200 cannot be connected at the same time via Y cable with a MEGA 360.
Airmar High-Wide transducers can be connected at the same time as a MEGA 360, but Low, Medium, High, and 50/200 kHz Airmar transducers cannot be connected at the same time.

How do I connect the three wires on the power cable of my MEGA 360?

You must connect the drain/shield wire and the ground wire on the MEGA 360 power cable to a ground terminal/boat chassis ground point to ensure good performance. The drain wire is the non-tinned wire.
See the MEGA 360 Installation Manual for full installation instructions.

Key Advantages of Humminbird 360 Imaging Sonar

The days of blindly casting in front of your boat are over because 360 Imaging gives purpose to each cast you make.

With traditional Humminbird Down and Side Imaging®, anglers have the ability to view sonar returns directly below and to the side of their boats. Since it’s introduction, Humminbird 360 Imaging® has allowed anglers to see an expanded view of the water not only beneath and to the sides but all around their boat.
    Sonar Coverage Area is Critical

As all anglers know, fish and structure can be located anywhere under or around your boat. With 360 Imaging, you’ll be able to see 360-degrees around you, covering areas that other types of sonar do not. With this advantage, you’ll be able to catch fish before spooking them, or never even knowing they were there.
Arguably the biggest benefit of 360 Imaging is its range. It allows you to truly see 360 degrees around your boat in all directions, meaning you can pick out brush piles, weed edges, drop-offs, bottom transitions, stumps, and even fish from any direction, up to 150' from the boat.

One added benefit of 360 Imaging is the constant display of sonar history on screen. This sonar history provides a quick reference to where the fish are around your boat without the need to keep your eyes glued to the screen; allowing you to focus on your presentation and bites.
As an angler, being able to see what’s around your boat allows you to quickly locate structure and get your lure in front of the fish.
To best utilize 360 Imaging for catching fish, find the fish holding on structure, line up your rod in that direction and make a precise cast, equal to the direction and distance the fish or structure is located from the boat. Now that you've found the spot and made the perfect cast, all that's left is to get the bite and set the hook.
    Versatility and Adjustability

One of the best things about 360 Imaging is that you maintain your sonar picture without sacrificing boat control.
Because 360 Imaging is mounted independently of your trolling motor’s steering you can use Spot-Lock on a Minn Kota Ultrex™, or hammer down on the trolling motor in and around docks without missing anything on your screen.
As your fishing scenario changes, so does 360 Imaging. You can focus your view to a customized area or direction around and under your boat; from 10 to 360 degrees. For quick view options, there are also preset views for the front, left, right, rear and full 360 views preferences. Anglers can also choose from 5 refresh rates for the right balance of image quality and refresh rate.

Additionally, the refresh rate of 360 Imaging is determined by the size of the selected viewing area. A smaller viewing window, 90 degrees, for example, will have a faster refresh rate than a 180-degree view, due to the 360 Imaging transducer providing images for a smaller, more focused area.
Many anglers will set their 360 Imaging range to the distance of their cast, so that as soon as a piece of structure or fish shows up on the screen, they can line up, and fire a cast to the exact location, even providing the option to mark and view waypoints right on the 360 Imaging screen.

    Stealthy Approach

One of the most underrated advantages of 360 Imaging is that it allows you to see in front of your boat, so you can be much stealthier when approaching a quality spot. By identifying structure, depth changes, and fish positioned around that structure, you can be sneak into the area and avoid running over the top of fish and ruining your fishing spot.

360 Imaging can be an incredibly effective tool when fishing weed edges and structure by using the casting rings on the screen to provide a reference of your distance from the fish-holding structure.
As weed edges and contours twist and turn ahead of your boat’s path, you will be able to see structure and position your boat accordingly to take full advantage of inside turns and make casts on points, instead of hoping that you don’t drive right over the top of fish and structure ahead.
Simply put, spot the structure or fish, and cast right to them before they even know you’re there.

Setting up and interpreting Humminbird 360 Imaging with Brandon Palaniuk

Humminbird's 360 Imaging is a key component of professional bass fisherman, Brandon Palaniuk's electronics arsenal.
"I will see things off to the side or out in front of me, that are under the water, off the bank...that other anglers are missing." - Brandon Palaniuk
Brandon walks us through his preferred custom 360 Imaging settings and what he's looking for in the sonar return. He then demonstrates how to analyze the image and ultimately make accurate casts to areas of interest others are missing. This is an excellent setup video for existing and new Humminbird 360 Imaging owners, and an introductory video to the capabilities of this unique all-seeing imaging technology.

How does one go about sharing the mega 360 image via ethernet on Helix g4n units?
Let’s say Mega 360 is hooked up to a Helix Mega di+ g4n with a Helix Mega si+ g4n and a Helix sonar gps g4n also on the boat. Is there a way for those other 2 units to see the Mega 360 image?

    Thanks for any information

Yes, if you network all the units via Ethernet Switch all functions will be listed on all three units to select which function to display on each one. The Network menu is what does that.
Each Helix needs an Ethernet Adapter--AS EC QDE and then an Ethernet cable between the Adapters and Ethernet Switch--AS ETH 5PXG.

This is the GPS column on one unit showing 8 sources for GPS, four unit's internal GPS antennas, three External GPS antennas, and iPilot LINK.

Transducer port. It comes with two 10' cables. One is a 14-pin transducer extension cable for SOLIX/APEX, and the other is a 14-pin to 7-pin adapter for a Helix.

If you want to avoid severe cross-talk, connect the MEGA DI+ transducer and MEGA 360 to the same unit via the 9 M360 2DDI Y cable.

You don't plug the Mega 360 into the ethernet switch. Once you plug it into the transducer port of a networked Helix, it will be available to any other Helix on the network.

Sorry for the questions, I thought the transducer port on Helix models is where the ethernet cable/ethernet adapter cable were plugged into.

No the Ethernet port is next to the transducer port. The transducer port has a 7-pin connection and the Ethernet port has a 5-pin connection and the shapes are different.
