NMEA 2000 upgrade to 2004 250 HPDI, which ECU?

I have a 2004 250 HPDI (Z250TXRD, SN 60V X 1003563) that I would like to upgrade to have NMEA2000 connectivity for engine data. My current harness does not have the white plug. I already have an engine harness from a 2006 250HPDI, but I am not sure what ECUs will work and have NMEA2000. Can someone point me in the right direction? Are all 250HPDI ECUs the same across Z250, VZ250, etc? What year did they switch to 32bit? Any benefit to the 32bit ecu? Thanks!

    2006 or newer should work.

The ECU's are different between the Z and the VZ models.

What part number wire harness do you have? You need the 60V -70-00 harness to be compatible with a 60V -50-00 ECU.

Thanks for the feedback. My replacement harness is part # 60V-82590-71-00. Is the 60V-50 the only option? Can a different ECU be re-programmed?

The -71-00 harness replaced the -70-00 harness.

I am not aware of anyone that can program a Yamaha ECU.

The -50-00 ECU was replaced by a -51-00 ECU. Maybe look for one of those instead.

Thanks for the confirmation. I will look for a 60V-50 or 51 ECU.

Will a 60V-30 ECU work with the -70 or -71 harness? It seems the -30 ecu is a 2005 16/32 bit ECU. Are the running charecteristics of the full 32bit ECU better? Are the GEN2 (2007+) ECUs compatible?

I agree with the above post. I'd love to do this to my '05.

I am currently on the hunt for a 2006 ECU and will provide an update once I have one and add the NMEA 2000 engine data. This topic is covered on other forums and the actual connection is very straight forward. Connect the NMEA2000 engine data plug on the Yamaha engine to your NMEA 2000 backbone by a Lowrance part num 000-0120-37 data cable. Connect your NMEA2000 capable chartplotter or MDF to the backbone, and set it up to display the engine data you want. Plug and play :)

Podcast, The functionality may already be present on an '05 motor. Check for the presence of the NMEA2000 engine data plug on the engine harness.
