The POINT-1 AP is sold with the Lowrance auto-pilot kit. The difference between the POINT-1 and POINT-1AP is NOT that one has a magnetic heading sensor and the other does not. The difference is related to the rate of data update and smoothing of magnetic heading data for better application with an auto-pilot in the AP model.
The Evinrude one doesn't have a magnetic compass

The point 1 AP does not have a heading sensor. If you need a point 1 with the heading sensor, you need 000-11047-002

I know that what is the general consensus but heading is nowhere in the data sheet in the AP. I have it and it is not there.
Here is its data sheet on my point 1 AP. 1646417593833685888381999798914.jpg

Now here is the data sheet from the Point 1

Please note the only heading data is from the Point 1.

Strange that you don't see heading. W/O heading an AP can't work and look at the description on the pic; this is from Navico
I also have something better somewhere I will try to find it

I was under the impression an Autopilot must have a magnetic compass to stay on course.

The AP works from COG, course over ground, along with GPS location and compass heading, not boat heading. Boat heading is the direction the boat is pointing which autopilot could care less about. Your chart will spin if you are sitting still because there is not the heading sensor in AP.

It does have a magnetic compass and you can see it in the data sheet. It does not have heading like the point 1.

I was confused about this until I got my Autopilot and did some research....lol

***I do not see the magnetic compass heading on the Point 1 AP either so I need to correct that...very confusing but the data sheet doesnt lie....

When you have 2 Point-1 on the network the Point-1 not the AP will give Heading. If you are using 1 Point-1AP then the AP will be use for heading

Always something to learn. Last year I change the Point-1AP for a Precision-9

I disconnected the Pt1 and checked the Pt 1 AP again and.....
heading shows up on the AP.

    Wth....lol
Now to find out the differences and see if my autopilot will work on just the Pt1 and if not, can I get by with just the AP. I was told I need both by another specialist...lol

It does. Heading is extremly important with an AP, which is why the P1-AP has sligthly better heading than the normal P1.
