    Solix G3 Upgrade

I am wanting to upgrade my Solix MSI+ G2 10" at my console to the G3 model and was wondering if I could retain the G2 transducer on the transom. It is networked with ultrex ipilot link and a solix MSI+ G2 12" at the bow with MLive and M360 up front. If there's no downside to NOT having the new G3 ducer, I prefer the plug and play option. Thanks Gary

They have the same standard transducer.
You would loose the age/wear for not using the new transducer with the new unit.

Ok, Thanks Wayne! I'll eventually upgrade the 12 but these things don't grow on trees

Next question would be if I changed to the G3 transducer, would the G1 solix’s be able to use it?

Yes, you would have to change the Sonar setting by turning off Auto Configure and then setting the 2D Frequency Capability to HB HW CHIRP and remember you did that.
I did just that on my desk to see if XID would change the 2D frequency and it did not.

I’m thinking about upgrading one of my Gen 1 units to Gen 3. Are you saying if I just bought a new transducer, that would basically upgrade my Gen 1 Mega to Mega +
    Thanks

No, a transducer does not increase the unit's power. + means more power.

    Thanks Wayne,
That’s what I was afraid of. I figured it couldn’t be that simple to upgrade my images to Mega + quality just by changing the transducer. Oh well. I guess some Gen 3’s may be in my future.
Thanks again. I appreciate everything you do for this forum.

Is the picture quality very significant from Gen 1 MSI to Gen 2 or 3 (MSI+)?

The displays are the same. The image quality improves with the additional power and transducer change from first to second/third generation.
The second generation added more power and 75' more depth/range for Imaging. The third generation added more power and 50' more depth/range for Imaging.

This is with the first generation SOLIX:

That's a sweet upgrade Wayne, Would just a change in the control head provide the change in the pic quality if I hooked to my G2 transducer or would the G2 ducer have to be upgraded to the G3 ducer as well?

There is no difference between the G2 and G3 SI transducer. XM 14 HW MSI T

Thanks Wayne,1! more question, if you don't mind...are the power cords the same as well? I have the old 1 rigged with 10/2 connected with terminals strips and would like not to have to redo the power cord for it. Thanks!!

Yes, the ONIX and all SOLIX units have the same power cord: PC-12
